The sweeping
certificate

A legal document provided at every visit, required by your home insurance in the event of a claim.

A legal requirement

Sweeping flue ducts is governed by regulation and by the departmental health code. It generally must be carried out once or twice a year depending on the fuel, with at least one sweep during the heating season.

At the end of every visit, I provide a sweeping certificate. This document confirms that the work was carried out to a proper standard.

What is it for?

  • It is required by your home insurance: in the event of a chimney fire, not having a certificate can lead to a claim being refused.
  • It states the date, the nature of the work, the duct concerned and confirms the duct is clear.
  • It carries the professional liability of the sweep who issued it.
A certificate in order means peace of mind if anything goes wrong.

When to have it swept?

Ideally before the heating season, in autumn, so you can face winter with peace of mind. For pellet stoves and boilers, an annual service is recommended.
